I dont see whats so rediculous about it. Its just T-smite with an extra heal monk. The thing thats strange about game 3 is not iQ's build - its iQ's tactics (suicide rushing the lord room... ?)

I think it has something to do with iQ planning on playing for VoD, but WM saw it coming and picked a cata map, and iQ then tried to make the best of a bad situation. Didnt quite work out for them, tho

To get the basis for that crazy tactic out there:

1) We expected War Machine to split multiple people into our base from the beginning (which was incorrect)
2) We expected War Machine to run Mo/A's (which was correct)

We believed that if both of those were true, then we could take triple smite into the guild lord area on any map, and their monks would be unable to keep up with the damage. We could then take the bodyguards, and have a nasty 8v8 fight in an enclosed space before the gank got back.

The thing that we did not anticipate was the three mesmers. Those shut down our three smiters hard, which kinda made it impossible to blow people up with smite.

It was unquestionably a hell of a gamble, one that was going to either win or lose spectacularly. Unfortunately for us, it lost spectacularly.

Peace,
-CxE

At least you guys had a great time and beat EvIL!

The morale of the story is to drink as much beer as possible.

iQ schooling EvIL was definately the highlight of the championship.

hopefully we see iQ again in coming ones.

Schooling is kind of a large word for being near party-wiped just when the enemy team's GL drops but iQ definitly showed the world a couple of interesting tactics.

iQ gambled in that last match and lost it all. I wouldn't have made that 25.000 dollar gamble but well, I could actually see it work.

I'm wondering if iQ had tested that tactic in GvGs before and just how that turned out, though?

Heh, the final was very interesting to watch. Grats to WM, they're probably the most unpredictable team around.

I still don't get why iQ wagered so much with such an inflexible build/strategy combination and then, when it so obviously wasn't going to fly, continued to repeat the agony over and over.

Making a punt on Game 2, yes I would go for it. 1/1 on game three, championship in sight "Great - lets break out the gimmick!". You'll have to forgive me, but given iQ's assumptions of what WM would play it still seems like an incredibly dumb choice.

iQ you broke our hearts! (trounce 'em next season eh?)

My question is, what exactly was WM expecting for them to include three Mesmers into their build?

Tri-Surge is a LOT of AoE damage, particularly usefull at VoD. Looking at the previous matches of iQ it was no big stretch of the imagination to assume they would be facing a VoD game. It could also be that they assumed that iQ would pull out smite at some point, given that they ran it with so much success over the three day event. Three Mesmers with enchant strips is about all you need against that.

and...

Also against balanced 3-mesmers can shine as they can shut-down the entire "standard" 2 monk backline.

I love iQ for screwing all my expactations, it where nice fights and I loved them for pulling out everything they had...incluiding the 3rd game gamble.

GG iQ!
Congrats WM!

(luckily no flaming here on the "stupidity", "noobishness" or whatever words I have seen passing by on other forums... although it would be nice to post some OM remarks )

iQ's move in the finals was pure genius.

I believe both WM and iQ are on even ground as far as tactics are concerned.

Who has better players?
Definetly iQ.

Gimmic Vs Gimmic and one was the complete counter of the other.
100% chance that it turned out like that.

You wont see another match up like that in the champs for a good while.

Ty iQ and WM for giving an new outlook on play.

Pure genius. gg.
